Don’t Take Chances with Mower Safety
The modern lawnmower is, to all intents and purposes, an extremely safe piece of machinery.
Manufacturers have spent many decades or in some cases even a century or so, trying to protect people using their machinery from the consequences of accidents or just errors in operation. So, today they will almost all usually come with variations of things such as cut-out switches, fast-stop motors and dead-man’s handles etc.
However, it still possible to see some really dangerous practices when people are mowing. Our top ‘list of horrors’ includes things such as:
1. People poking jammed but engaged and active cutting edges with sticks
2. Starting the engine with a mower inclined, then trying to see what was going on underneath ‘close-up and personal’
3. Allowing children to ride, unsecured, on the cowling of a mower in operation
4. Mowing extremely close to live power cables on the ground.
Many of these things might strike you as being insane and the sort of stuff that should only be seen on those crazy home video shows on TV. However, these things and many like them can be seen from time to time and it is a miracle that in most cases they haven’t resulted in a serious accident.
Kubota mowers and others like them are exceptionally safe pieces of garden and farming machinery providing you operate them sensibly and in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. If you don’t, then you’re putting yourself and potentially others at risk.
We always offer our clients the opportunity to talk to us about any doubts they may have regarding what is or is not safe and sensible operation of any form of lawnmower we have provided. Don’t take chances because we’re here to help and are just a phone call or a ‘pop-in and see us’ distance away at any time.
