So, You Need a New Set of Tools?
During one of our recent chats with a visitor, they commented that they’d purchased a new socket set recently.
They also said just how cheap it had been and it all sounded really good. Their joy at their bargain lasted right up until about the third time they’d tried to use it when various parts of the set had started breaking under stress. Apparently, the ratchets gave up first then bits of the main metal parts started to shear or “round”.
Now you can probably see where we’re going with this because we’ve blogged on it before (socket sets in particular seem to arise commonly in this respect), albeit a long time back. Even so, we’ll offer our thoughts again.
Generally speaking – cheap tools are a bad idea! OK, if you’re able to buy a quality second-hand branded set at a bargain price then good luck to you. That’s different.
In the case of new tool sets though, more often than not if the price is too good to be true then you’re probably buying trouble. Of course there might be some exceptions and if you know someone that’s purchased a cheap brand that was massive value for money, then fine. You might be able to do the same relatively safely.
On the whole though, be aware that the market today is flooded with seemingly impossibly good deals on new tools and in many cases, they’ll be brands you’ve never heard of. Many of these, even if not all of them, will be of poor to moderate quality. So, keep in mind you’ll probably get what you pay for.
This brings us onto a related point.
As our regular visitors will know, here at White’s Tractors we’re not exactly big on formality and “legalise”. When you come to see our tractors for sale in Goulburn, you won’t be greeted by one of our team plus their 3 attendant lawyers – we promise!
Even so, do keep in mind that some new tractor and agricultural vehicle warranties might be put at risk if you’ve accidentally damaged said vehicle through using the wrong tools or those of poor quality. True, you can cause damage with a good quality tool but using a poor quality implement can increase the risks of things such as stripping threads.
Unless you’re an expert, be careful and we’ll always be happy to offer our advice in advance. Above all, make sure you’re using the right tool for the job and one of appropriate quality.
